Our Mission

It's our mission to directly connect our friends, family, and community with the artisan farms we've come to know and trust. Done right, we can feed our community with clean, responsibly-farmed seafood, mitigate pressure on wild stock populations of sea life, and help create a growing network of Marine Protected Areas.

We raise grass fed beef on organic forage and all natural, antibiotic free pork fed with non-gmo grains. Excellent quality beef and pork ready year round.

We believe we are a part of the ocean and the ocean is a part of us, so we created Oshēn as an extension of our commitment to the environment.

We continue to be frontrunners in sustainable practices that are ethical for aquaculture. As stewards of our lands and waterways, we recognize our responsibility to lead our industry toward a cleaner environment for all. Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP), which is the most comprehensive end-to-end certification verifying the right thing is happening through each step of production. Oshēn salmon receive a diet of premium quality all-natural feed, which is completely free from steroids and hormones. Our processing facilities operate on renewable energy and create no waste runoff.

Kilgus Farmstead is Central Illinois only on-farm single source milk bottling plant. All the milk used at Kilgus Farmstead comes from the Kilgus Families Jersey cow herd. Kilgus Farstead also has a small country store where their dairy and meat products along with local eggs, cheese, and homemade goodies can be purchased.

Our Black Angus cattle, heritage Berkshire hogs and Navajo Churro lambs spend their days on our green pastures and hills rich in minerals with plenty of sunshine and fresh Northern California mountain air. We vigilantly care for our animals as a family and ship directly to your doorstep. You can experience the difference in the taste of our beef, pork and lamb.

The Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund (FTCLDF) was launched on Independence Day, July 4, 2007. FTCLDF is a non-profit organization recognized under the Internal Revenue Code as a Section 501(c)(4) organization [EIN 20-8605130]. A (c)(4) organization is classified as a “social welfare” organization. 

The FTCLDF protects the rights of farmers and consumers to engage in direct commerce; it protects the rights of farmers to sell the products of the farm and the rights of consumers to access the foods of their choice from the source of their choice. FTCLDF is a true grassroots organization and receives no government funding and little or no corporate funding.

Dearing Country Farms is a small family owned/operated farmstead, growing and harvesting an abundant of healthy foods.  We raise chickens for meat and eggs and grow a full variety of seasonal produce, trees, fruit, berries, melons, flowers, grasses, nuts and herbs. Dearing Country Farms products can be purchased directly from off the farm, local farmers markets, and at several health food stores.   

Today most foods are rapidly produced, full of additives, preservatives and LESS HEALTHY.  Most meats come from animals full of antibiotics, steroids and growth hormones.  Fruits and vegetables are mass produced using genetically altered seeds, applied herbicides, pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, coming from who knows where, including foreign countries with poor regulation.  Dearing Country Farms produces fresh, natural, humanely grown products, right here on our eco-friendly farm just 3 miles west of Bloomington.

Welcome to the Elkhart Hill Farm, previously Old Gillett Farm.  This historic farm was established in 1868 by John Dean Gillett. Passed down through eight generations of the Gillett family, the property was sold to Court and Karen Conn in 2018 to continue the stewardship of the land.  Both families carry a love of history and preservation that ensure the past will continue to live on well into the future.  And it’s hard not to feel the beauty of that history as you wind up the drive to the top of the hill and take in the views from the highest vantage point in Central Illinois.
